One of my cousins, whom we've nicknamed momo, not because of momoko, but because her name, which I won't say, is similar to momo, who's sorta kinda into Japanese music, asked me if there were any new happy songs that recently released...
9:31:25 PM momo: any new happy jsongs?
9:31:39 PM johpan: ACTUALLY.
she totally just kicked a snowball over a cliff.
9:31:44 PM johpan: lol
9:31:48 PM johpan: my msn name
which was "johann . love comes and goes <3" at the time
9:31:52 PM johpan: it's not exactly happy
9:31:56 PM johpan: but it's awesome
I sooooo need a translation of this song. I haven't actively searched for it though... little help if there is one avail already! plz and thx <3
9:32:03 PM johpan: it's m-flo's last collab song
9:32:12 PM johpan: last loves collab T_T
9:32:13 PM johpan: it's kinda sad
9:32:18 PM johpan: but all the important ppl are in it
minus melody. what happened to her? O_o
9:32:39 PM momo: last collab?!!
9:32:43 PM momo: what does that mean!!
9:32:56 PM johpan: we don't know
9:33:00 PM johpan: but they're ending the loves series
anyone actually know what's gonna happen to them post Award SuperNova?
9:33:05 PM momo: :O:O:O
9:33:11 PM johpan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8DXFLjCHNc
9:33:16 PM johpan: and the song is QUITE the finale
9:33:22 PM johpan: i <3 it
9:33:40 PM momo: okay im listening to it now
I really love this single. I love how Taku delves into electro sounds like Nakata-style while still maintaining the m-flo hip-hop core. Of Taku's electro-y type songs, I can't help but bob my head to Loves Dragon Ash - WAY U MOVE. Still, love comes and goes is an awesome finale to the Loves series regardless of Ryohei getting so few lines. I don't think he minds.
9:33:58 PM johpan: oh and perfume's got a few more singles
9:34:02 PM johpan: and capsule has their new CD
but no PVs to show for it :P
9:34:10 PM johpan: and... there's a lot of stuff actually o_O
9:34:21 PM momo: as long as they're happy! lol
that's why I <3 Japanese music. There's more happy sound stuff that's not just the same North American crap again and again. Then again, one could say Jpop is the same Japanese crap again and again. The difference? I don't live in Japan and am not bombarded with it on a daily basis without my consent. It takes a lot more for me to be truly impressed with a North American musical act. Nicole Atkins is love though. And The Pipettes from the UK are love as well.

9:35:54 PM momo: i like!!!
9:35:58 PM johpan: this is sooo cuuute <3
9:36:55 PM johpan: have I shown you OK by MEG?
9:37:18 PM momo: nopers
9:37:28 PM johpan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgtxDeEozzE OK by MEG
9:37:43 PM momo: so maanny hehehe
9:37:52 PM johpan: you asked for it XD
9:37:58 PM johpan: it's been cute central for me
9:38:35 PM johpan: oh... you're in a new PV
side note: this cousin kinda reminds me and my sister of Gaki-san so we joke around and say that she's her.
9:38:40 PM momo: haha okay i'll check out the second song now
9:38:46 PM johpan: your new mini group is doing well
9:39:09 PM johpan: you've released 2 opening songs for the same anime
9:39:13 PM momo: hahaha...yaaay!
9:39:16 PM momo: goooooo me!
see?
9:39:17 PM johpan: i like the 2nd more than the first tho
9:39:31 PM johpan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9cmMokgp3M - Seishun! Love lunch by Athena & Robikerottsu
9:39:43 PM johpan: i'm sure you can recognize you by now
9:40:26 PM momo: haha omgosh cute overload!
I agree completely.
9:40:28 PM johpan: omg. the group [maiZe] totally loves (Buono!) and i'm into too released a new one and the PV just came up today
9:40:34 PM johpan: so this one's like... FRESH.
9:40:39 PM momo: oOoOohhh
9:41:20 PM johpan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QI5UpXiWRjk - Renai Rider by Buono!
9:42:18 PM johpan: i <3 how the verses sound
9:42:19 PM johpan: so epic
I'm jumping on the Renai Rider party bus a bit late but I don't want to make another mistake like making premature comments that don't actually reflect my final thoughts like I did in capsule's FLASH BACK album review. But getting back on track, I totally don't understand how songs have this effect on me. The verses in Renai Rider sound so epic. I can't think of any other words to describe them. It kinda reminds me of something Do As Infinity would release. DAI had some epic songs back in the day. I miss them. *sigh*
Anywho, I've been wanting to make a stepchart to Renai Rider, except that I need better quality audio. This PV's audio quality is kinda... blah. Somehow, I managed to make a stepchart with the PV audio from Seishun! LOVE Lunch but I just can't do it for Renai Rider. That and I'm having trouble with doing something clever with the song. The arrows aren't coming as naturally...
9:42:43 PM momo: okay i'll listen to that one next
9:43:36 PM momo: i like!!!!!
9:43:45 PM johpan: XD
9:44:04 PM johpan: which one?
9:44:20 PM johpan: i sent so much i can't keep track
9:44:25 PM momo: renai rider!
9:44:29 PM johpan: ah
9:44:29 PM johpan: XD
9:44:39 PM johpan: did you watch you yet?
9:44:46 PM momo: no not yet lol
9:44:51 PM momo: OH WAIT yes lol
9:44:51 PM johpan: i made a stepchart to it XD
9:45:01 PM momo: haha
9:45:44 PM momo: lol!! the cat is so cute!
9:45:59 PM johpan: hehe in OK.
9:46:01 PM johpan: i <3 OK
9:46:19 PM johpan: meg's whole album is awesome
9:46:56 PM johpan: http://boylikesmusic.blogspot.com/2007/12/album-review-meg-beam.html
note: shameless self promoter... i know ^^;
9:47:28 PM momo: i can't get over the cat haha
dancing neko ftw! I can't wait for MEG's new single.
9:48:16 PM momo: yeah i like the upbeat happiness to it lol
9:48:52 PM johpan: btw. nakata yasutaka (the guy in capsule and the one who produces perfume) is the producer of MEG's latest album too
Nakata-san is a hard worker. I love his work and his style. I want to have his babies.
9:48:56 PM johpan: so... lol XD
9:49:37 PM momo: wooow haha
9:53:02 PM momo: gaahhhh
9:53:05 PM momo: i really like perfume lol
9:53:13 PM johpan: as do i.
I <3 Perfume to death. I really need to add to my CD collection of theirs. I've been behind since I haven't had the funds to support my addiction. Being a Jpop/Technopop fanboy is worse than gambling. I lie. Except if you get lucky gambling, you win things back. If you get lucky as a fanboy/girl... do you get lucky as a fanboy/girl?
9:53:20 PM johpan: they're so cute o_o
Kashiyuka is my fave though A-Chan and Nocchi are lovely in their own way. Actually, it really depends on how I'm feeling. On any given day, any three of the girls could be my number one though it ends up being Kashiyuka more often than not.
9:53:22 PM momo: WHOOOAA that light thing [from baby crusing love] is wicked!!
9:53:25 PM johpan: oh yeah
9:53:31 PM johpan: i love that effect
9:53:36 PM johpan: i wanna learn how to do that
9:53:40 PM momo: i know!!
9:53:52 PM johpan: i shoulda sent this to you sooner
9:54:14 PM johpan: i knew you'd love the visual style
9:54:24 PM johpan: the light wall is awesome too
9:54:36 PM johpan: i don't know if i like it more than the chocolate disco lasers tho
9:54:51 PM momo: sooo wicked lol
9:55:59 PM momo: hmm maybe its green screen?
9:56:08 PM momo: and then they just added the visual effect
9:56:14 PM johpan: a friend of mine at school that's in design had a good suggestion
9:56:34 PM johpan: they recorded it with the gray background
9:56:54 PM johpan: but make a mask for the girls
9:57:01 PM johpan: i forget what its actually called
9:57:27 PM momo: ooh lol
9:57:31 PM johpan: so then they just added the light effect so they could put it wherever and over and around them
9:57:38 PM momo: yeaaaah
9:59:05 PM momo: so cool haha
9:59:11 PM johpan: it is XD
9:59:17 PM johpan: that and they're all so adorable <3
9:59:29 PM momo: i know! why cant i have hair like them -______-
9:59:32 PM johpan: lol
9:59:42 PM johpan: their hair is awesome
If I was a girl, I'd so have hair like Kashiyuka. If i had the face for it, I'd like Nocchi's too. Not too many people can pull off short hair, imo.
9:59:56 PM momo: totes
10:00:22 PM johpan: i have a favourite but the thing is, they all have their charm points
10:00:28 PM momo: hahaha

[ranking] Morning Musume Singles Ranking (c/o American Wota's Distractions)
My sister called me into her room one day earlier this week and showed me the rankers on American Wota so I thought it'd be appropriate to give them a go. I've done active H!P members and MM members already but plan to redo them since the results didn't really reflect my true feelings. For now, I've done MM's singles ranking just because I'm curious as to what my results will be on the fly... Here goes nothing!
Note: A little more than half way doing this post, I became curious about the BPMs (Beats Per Minute) of the singles and wanted to see if there was some sort of correlation between my likes and the BPMs. To me, anything around 120 is slow, 140 is my medium, and anything above 170 is comfy. 180-200 is fun. 200 and above is yay XD. Read on to see if the little experiment returned any interesting results.
35. Memory Seishun no Hikari (106 BPM)
I'm not the world's biggest fan of Morning's slower stuff which will be evident leading up to my #1. I've heard this single via concerts but just noticed I've never watched the PV before (I gave it a youtube search so then I can make some real comments about it while writing this up). I like Reina's version better but that might be just because I like Reina more than the older members... Still, nothing personal with this single, just not into the slower stuff.
34. Morning Musume no Hyokkori Hyoutanjima (~100 BPM)
Can't really put a finger on as to why this single is ranked so low. Again, nothing personal but I just never found it that catchy *shrug*. I was surprised at the BPM. Sounds faster...
33. Chokkan 2 ~Nogashita Sakana wa Ookiizo!~ (~150 BPM)
Again, I don't know how this got all the way down here but I guess something has to be here... According to my experiment, this SHOULD be higher... I didn't really like the single all that much though.
32. Namida ga Tomaranai Houkago (105 BPM)
I still remember watching this PV for the first time thinking uh-oh. Three of the more "acquired tastes" (vocally) of Morning are in the front lines. I relaxed a bit more after the second verse. Still, slow, not catchy enough for me. *sigh*
31. Morning Coffee (127 BPM)
Oldie...
30. Summer Night Town (~116 BPM)
Oldie...
29. Daite Hold On Me! (~125 BPM)
Wasn't a big fan of the oldies too... lol >_>
28. Furusato (80 BPM)
See a pattern?
27. Happy Summer Wedding (127 BPM)
Why's this down here? Hrmmm...
26. Roman ~My Dear Boy~ (175 BPM)
Same with this one... Also, I wasn't expecting that high of a BPM...
25. Love Machine (129 BPM)
A good oldie but an oldie none the less?
24. As For One Day (109 BPM)
A good slow one but a slow one none the less? lol >_>
23. Mr. Moonlight (183 BPM)
Ok. I like this song except it wasn't the best use of the 5th gen, especially since it was their debut single. Maybe that makes me a bit bitter... On a side note, I started listening to Morning around the time this single was released.
22. Manatsu no Kousen (126 BPM)
My favourite oldie. There's something about the verses and chorus that make it very catchy. I like it around as much as I like Tanpopo. On a side note, 2nd Gen Tanpopo was adorable <3.
21. Koi no Dance Site (141 BPM)
I liked this song too... nothing personal I suppose again.
20. Aruiteru (107 BPM)
Again, I like these songs just something needs to populate the lower half of my list...
19. The Manpower!!! (162 BPM)
Why is this down here? This should be higher up I think...
18. Sexy Boy ~Soyokaze ni Yorisotte~ (153 BPM)
I didn't like this song at first and never really watched the PV but when they did it in a concert, I can't remember which one, I really enjoyed the section of the dance during the "ue ue"s. One specifically when Sayu did it (See Right). I don't know why I enjoy it so much.
17. Do it! Now (95 BPM)
Ok, halfway point. One of my favourite slower ones. Loved the costumes in the PV. Loved the room with all the previous costumes. Loved the fact that all the 5th Gen got at least one line each (I guess Mako's doesn't count since it was a "rapping" line) but still, it's always good to hear the new members. Feels weird calling them new...
16. Shabondama (128 BPM)
Now this is how you welcome new members with good voices. It would've been nice if Souda! We're Alive was the 5th Gen's first song but meh. I still love 5th Gen. Reina really shined in her debut and is probably why I still enjoy her in the group. Eri got a shabondama and Sayu got her first Rika line which was a little disappointing but ah well. I love Eri and Sayu still too.
15. Ai Araba It's All Right (106 BPM)
This song is adorable. Upon further review, I wonder why it's so low... slow? maybe...
The costumes, the everything, so yay. What happened... I dunno o_o.
14. Egao Yes Nude (118 BPM)
Good opener for Mittsi. I don't even mind Koha in this single. Not too slow, good for what it was.
13. Ambitious! Yashinteki de Ii Jan (160 BPM)
The dance is a bit weird and I kinda don't like Ai-chan's and Yossy's hair in the PV but yeah, those are irrelevant to what I think of the single. Very catchy and fun! I had it on my PSP not too long about but I think I had to make space for some new stuff and it had to go bye bye :(
12. I Wish (102 BPM)
My favourite slow song from MM. It doesn't sound slow but it clocked in at 102 BPM for me and that's slow in my books. The PV's cute. I miss this era of Morning. Before all the drama and the graduations... *sigh*
11. Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari (145 BPM)
Fast[ish], catchy, super cute PV. It's a great song to get people to listen to that know nothing about the Musume's because of the whole singing about themselves thing.
10. Iroppoi Jirettai (112 BPM)
Koha's first single. Quite the interesting one too. I didn't think she had it in her personally but for her debut, it was pretty impressive. Not quite "miracle" status but a cutie still. Loved the flaming hands etc. It made them hot. lol.
9. The Peace! (136 BPM)
I think this was the first ever PV I watched. I thought it was adorable. That and it was only the short version and I never got to see the mostly awful golden musume outfits... *shudder* Rika's was the only OK one. It wasn't until a few years later I managed to acquire the full version. Oh where would I be without you, youtube?
8. Renai Revolution 21 (133 BPM)
My 2nd PV watched ever. And it was a short version again. lol. Oh, back when it was hard to acquire MM PVs... Both sets of costumes were fun and cute XD (well, maybe except Nono's...) Anyway, I wish this was higher on the list. After doing the re-listen this might just be my favourite single of all time. Some of the others are only higher because the novelty hasn't worn off yet. Still, Renai Revolution 21 never fails to put a smile on my face.
7. Souda! We're Alive (121 BPM)
This is where I fell in love with Ai-chan: "hontou no kimochi wa kitto tsutawaru hazu"
Ever since then, I felt she had the best voice in H!P. Also, I love the "civies" costumes: Maki's shorts. Mari's and Rika's dresses. Aibon's jumper.
6. Go Girl ~Koi no Victory~ (155 BPM)
Super catchy and totally cute PV. I was all over this song when it came out. Made a stepchart and everything though I have no idea where that is now... The 6th gen (minus Miki) still hadn't done anything with their hair. Though I like Reina's hair now, I like Sayu's and Eri's they way they were here.
5. Koko ni Iruzee! (210 BPM)
This one's always been near the top for me. I think I've been meaning to make a stepchart for this for the past couple of years... I fail :( Wasn't a big fan of the costumes but the song is so fun and entertaining. The PV had no effect on the song for me though.
4. Osaka Koi no Uta (200 BPM)
The bass really does it for me in this song. The dresses are super cute and the dance shot with the red background and blinky wings is just eyecandy.
3. Onna ni Sachi Are (155 BPM)
JunJun and RinRin's debut. Pretty strong song for a debut. These golden musume totally kick The Peace's golden musume butts. I still have this on my PSP so I hear it often. No one disappoints in this song. I just wish JunJun and RinRin got more lines.
2. Mikan (172 BPM)
This is most definitely still on my PSP. I don't quite know what it is about this song but I just love it to death. Ai-chan really hits those lines well. Almost brings a tear to my eye.
1. Kanashimi Twilight (140 BPM)
I don't even have to say anything about the costumes in this song. I am, however, going to say yum. That can't be the only reason why it's number one... lol *sigh* Maybe I should retake this again. Just kidding. I really liked the single just probably listened to it too much? *shrug* It's not on my PSP.
Well there you have it. A good chunk of the slower stuff appears lower on the list while a good chunk of faster stuff appears at the top minus a few exceptions. What to learn from this? I dunno. It's just fun to rank. ^^;

[stepchart] Athena & Robikerottsu - Seishun! LOVE Lunch
Stepcharts are the patterns of arrows made to music for various arrow stomping games like Dance Dance Revolution, In The Groove, Pump It Up, and StepMania. In this blog, I will use the term "stepchart" to describe ITG and StepMania charts only. Stepcharts are usually packaged in zipped files which include an .SM file which contains the step pattern information, an audio file (usually .MP3 or .OGG but .OGGs are required for arcade play) for the music, and PNG images for banners and backgrounds. .SM files are read by StepMania (StepMania is a free, open source rhythm game engine which In The Groove is built from. I use StepMania 3.95 with the Groove 2.4 skin to achieve the arcade feel at home. Search the ITGFreak forums for help.) and In The Groove 2 arcade cabinets with R21 or higher installed with Custom Songs Enabled. The stepcharts posted on this blog are made by me, have no banners, and have R21 patched .OGGs unless otherwise stated. Enjoy.
This song is Athena & Robikerottsu's 2nd single used as the opening theme for the anime Robby & Kerobby. I don't watch the anime so I have no idea what it's about. I just know that A&R consists of Hello! Project members and their music is just as cute and infectious most H!P releases have been recently.
I see what people are saying about the mini-moni comparisons visually, but musically, A&R's flavour isn't too similar... Maybe because the A&R vocals aren't as cutesy as mini-moni... don't get me wrong though... the voices behind A&R are cute but just not AS cute and just because they're not AS cute, it doesn't make them a worse group. That also doesn't mean I don't like cutesy voices - on the contrary, I adore them. I'm just saying mini-moni's level of vocal cuteness is a tad higher than A&R's. But anyway, I haven't listened to mini-moni in ages but I've never been THIS into a mini-moni song... both A&R releases usually get first play when I listen to my playlists on shuffle. I can't get enough of Shouri no BIG WAVE!!! and now this... A&R might have to be my favourite active H!P group.
I heard a small clip of it somewhere... probably Haromoni@ or something and thought, "Man, that has stepchart potential." I was up surfing one night and found the PV. I gave it a watch and the cogs began turning. The rest is history. A word to describe this stepchart would be gallopy. I made the Hard stepchart first and it's snapped to 12th notes. As I say later on in the readme, my record is 98.85% on keyboard which is kinda bad considering it's my chart... but relative to my skill, it's probably my highest score ever. My stepping/tapping timing is crap though I believe this song is timed correctly. Lemme know if otherwise. There's nothing too out of the ordinary with the song; I don't think I put any cross-overs in the Hard. I dropped a few mines to emphasize staccato. That's about it.
Expert has a lot of 12th runs, a few gallops, a few cross-overs here and there, and some single rolls just for fun. The "Hai hai hai hai" parts consist mostly of hands which I did to make people stomp on purpose since it'd be fun to stomp on those parts. The 12th runs with 4th jumps might get annoying but it is an expert chart and I gave it an 11. Other than that, it's a good stamina tester I suppose. I wonder how I'll hold up when I give 'er a whirl.
I'll probably update this post when I play it in arcades.
Here's the readme packaged in the zip file:

I haven't tested this in arcades yet so if timing's off, plz don't kill me.
My personal record on hard (on keyboard) is 98.85% and my FA is crappy so I think the timing's ok. Other than that, just enjoy. Feedback would be nice too, thx.

[album review] Nicole Atkins - Neptune City (2007)
Tracklist
1] Maybe Tonight
2] Together We're Both Alone
3] The Way It Is
4] Cool Enough
5] War Town
6] Love Surreal
7] Neptune City
8] Brooklyn's On Fire!
9] Kill The Headlights
10] Party's Over
I spoke of Ms. Atkins in a previous post and said many nice things about her. This post won't be much different except I'll be reviewing her latest work entitled Neptune City. It was available for purchase at the Pipettes show and I could've got it signed except I didn't have the money for it :( AH WELL. I still have my ticket stub signed :) Man, she's so awesome live... I digress. Here's my review for Neptune City.
Just off the bat, I'll let you know that I won't make any comments on Nicole's vocal performance in any of the songs. I won't do this because her voice is just so fucking awesome that I don't need to. Nicole Atkins is the epitome of a female crooner. Normally, I wouldn't buy an album like this except Nicole does it so... what's the word... awesomely? I can't describe how awesome her voice is.
Let's do this album in order of favourites starting with least.
10] Brooklyn's On Fire!
It's a good song but means the least to me probably because I don't understand the significance of Brooklyn being on fire. It could be a Jersey thing... either way, sounds like a fun party song served with a little regret on the side.
"I'm caught in the wave of tears from much happier days when we were young and not afraid of stupid mistakes that we made."
I feel ya, Nicole.
UPDATE: Yay lyric books. It's Independence Day! Fireworks light the Brooklyn skies like the city's on fire. FOURTH OF JULY! BROOKLYN'S ON FIRE! I never understood what they said there. Now I know. Now this song means more. Except we don't observe America's Independence Day here in Canada. lol.
9] Love Surreal
I'd probably like this song more if I felt this way about someone...
8] Party's Over
I'd like this song more if I didn't have to read the lyrics to know what you're saying Nicole... :P I'll fill this in when I have the time to analyze further.
7] The Way It Is
Probably the most popular song on the album due to Nicole singing it on Letterman.
To be honest, it wasn't one of my favourites when I first heard it; I like it more now that I've listened to it more but still hasn't broken the top half of the list. I've felt this way about a person before. It's good to listen to when I think about her. I still think Littlest Things by Lily Allen really does the trick to make me depressed about her. The Way It Is is a little more personal because of the whole "he's not the one that I need I'd rather find out for myself" bit. Oh and "If I was smart I'd never call you ever again". This would've been better when the wounds were fresh.
6] Neptune City
This song is sad and depressing. That's probably why I like it so much. Very smartly written, I think anyway. An excellent title track though I don't see why it would be the title track since the theme of the song isn't quite spread out throughout the other tracks. I don't quite understand the the "Our hearts are singing..." stanza but from what I can gather, the song's about a ghost who's deciding whether to lurk around or go to the great unknown that is the after-life. Comments on other and/or actual meanings would be appreciated...
5] Together We're Both Alone
This is probably what my ex thinks of me except she was the type that couldn't sleep unless we've solved the issue (which was annoying for reasons I can discuss in private). I believe that couples shouldn't sleep until they've resolved their issues except that some issues can't be solved so quickly, especially when they're re-occuring. In that case, sleep on it and wait until a compromise can be settled, similar to how Nicole has it laid out, except after no compromise, there is failure. Though in my case, I felt I was the last one to try to do anything. I changed unlike the guy in this song yet the problem didn't resolve. I guess some stories can't have their storybook ending.
4] War Torn
Perfect lead in into war torn. Again, it's probably what my ex thinks minus the whole "hoping you come pick me up" bit. My heart is war torn. To me, the second verse doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the song though it is another point of view on the whole war torn love status. I guess I sometimes feel like a war torn love is all I've known.
3] Kill The Headlights
At the concert, she said that this was a love song and had a back story which I can't quite recall. It doesn't sound like a love song starting at 2:03. From the first two verses, Nicole leaves a lot of room for there to be some sort of resolve in a third verse or a big bridge or something... except no. "So please understand, my heart, you won't have it again, so just don't try" wtf? I still love the song regardless.
2] Cool Enough
Nicole made some comments about this song before she performed which I can't quite recall but was somewhere along the lines of a high school reunion and how the cool people weren't as cool as they were in high school. She said the song was about that and that I can totally see. Awesome song. Great POV. Oh the irony.
1] Maybe Tonight
Oh Nicole spoils us with (in my opinion) the most awesome track on the album as the first track. The mood of the music is perfect for the lyrics and the lyrics (though I had to look up some parts outside of just listening) are a bit confusing for me at some points. Is it bad of me to just love this song just from the sound of the chorus? Because I REALLY love the sound of this chorus. I'd rewrite the verses to fit my needs and serenade a potential girlfriend to this song. Hrm... ideas?
